Signal Errors Analysis of Active Calibration via Transponder

چکیده

Quantitative analysis of SAR signatures require an absolute radiometric calibration of the complete SAR system. The active reflector named as transponder is an effective SAR calibration device that can yield a larger radar cross section than a corner reflector, and decouple the transponder from the background scatterers, which can be used to calibrate the SAR for radiometry, polarimetry, and interferometry. This paper concentrates on the signal error analysis of active calibration via transponder. The system configuration and possible signal processing algorithms are briefed. The most essential element of this transponder, a X-band wideband voltage controlled attenuator (VCA) is developed. As any ripple on the control line will result in AM sidebands on the VCA output, this paper details the various kinds of signal error and their impacts on calibrating high resolution SAR.

Altimeter Bias Determination Using Two Years of Transponder Observations

Satellite altimetry provides a precise measure of the vertical distance of the satellite borne altimeter to the instantaneous sea surface. The accuracy of this distance depends on the calibration of the altimeter, the quality of the reflecting target and the proper estimate of path delay. The general design characteristics for absolute altimeter calibration imply a large number of measurements ...

A New Measurement Principle for Determining the Polarization Direction of Calibration Transponder Antennas

Polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems require verification and calibration of their polarimetric performance after launch. Dual-antenna calibration transponders with freely rotatable, linearly-polarized antennas are one of the most common calibration targets for this task. Because the transponders are used as a measurement standard, any misorientation of the polarization direction...

The Three-Transponder Method: A Novel Method for Accurate Transponder RCS Calibration

Transponders (also known as polarimetric active radar calibrators or PARCs) are commonly used for radiometric calibration of synthetic aperture radars (SARs). Currently three methods for the determination of a transponder’s frequency-dependent radar cross section (RCS) are used in practice. These require either to measure disassembled transponder components, or a separate radiometric measuremen...

Transponder-Aided Joint Calibration and Synchronization Compensation for Distributed Radar Systems

High-precision radiometric calibration and synchronization compensation must be provided for distributed radar system due to separate transmitters and receivers. This paper proposes a transponder-aided joint radiometric calibration, motion compensation and synchronization for distributed radar remote sensing. As the transponder signal can be separated from the normal radar returns, it is used t...

Design of Solar Harvested Semi Active RFID Transponder with Supercapacitor Storage

This paper presents the analysis, design and manufacture of a low cost, low maintenance and longrange prototype of RFID transponder with continuous operability. A prototype of semi-active RFID transponder is produced with a range that can be extended via a DC input to allow all of the readers signal power to be reflected via backscatter modulation. The transponder is powered via solar harvested...
